Buying Manager – Retail

 

 

Fresh food / Fresh meat Buyers

 

Objective:

To manage the site meat, packaging and ingredient purchases, ensuring that all products are bought against site and customer specifications.

 

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

1.To effectively manage the purchasing areas described above ensuring all key performance indicators are met or excelled.

 

2.To communicate in a timely fashion progress, issues or concerns within the relevant purchasing accounts.

 

3.To ensure customer service level targets are met by maintaining the correct stock of raw materials at all times.

 

4.To ensure accurate usage of down graded stock to maximise efficiencies and reduce costly wastage

 

5.To work closely with our quality team and the supplier base to ensure inbound quality targets are met, and taking remedial action where required

 

6.To manage the claims process to ensure timely payment of raw material claims.

 

7.To ensure that market movements in price and availability are communicated as early as possible to the Operations Director, so that the appropriate action can be taken with our customers

 

8.To control the cost of raw materials through negotiation and forward planning to take advantage of market decreases, while avoiding / minimising the effect of market increases

 

9.To actively seek to work with the supply base to create a list of preferred suppliers, and reduce the overall number of suppliers.

 

10.To work closely with the production and quality teams to reduce the number of items purchased, through specification changes and other initiatives.

 

11.To ensure the administration of the buying function is maintained at a high level and working with the finance teams and the supply base to improve first time match rates on inbound.

 

12.To ensure all staff are adequately trained for the roles to which they are assigned.

 

13.To work with and through the H.R. Department to develop personnel development plans for key staff.

 

14.To take responsibility for the health and safety of all employees under the post holder’s control while in the workplace and seek, through a process of risk assessment and improvement to minimise the number of accidents and lost work time through accidents

 

15.To complete S.M.A.R.T objectives/projects as agreed with the Director.

 

16.To undertake any other task as directed by the Director.

 

Essential qualifications:

 

·          minimum of 5 years experience in a high-volume purchasing environment

·          with a strong background in meat and food related packaging and ingredient

·          a strong communicator

·          ability to manage relationships with subordinates and peers

·          an effective production team member

·          positive persona who MUST possess a strong ethos for success and must be able to instil this ethos within their team

·          deally degree or CIPS qualified or similar
